Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a KCTE representative will warmly greet you before transferring you to your comfortable hotel in Moshi. This day is meant for you to rest, acclimatize, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Enjoy the local cuisine and vibrant culture of Moshi.

Day 1: From Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Elevation: 2,360m to 2,895m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Vegetation: Rainforest

Your journey begins at the Londorossi Gate, where we complete park formalities before driving to the trailhead. We then embark on a gentle trek through lush rainforests, home to colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. Our first camp, Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree), awaits where you'll spend your first night under the stars.

Day 2: From Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 2,895m to 3,505m
  • Distance: 8 km
  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Vegetation: Moorland

Ascending through the heather and moorland zone, the landscape opens to sweeping views of the Shira Plateau. This ancient caldera was formed by volcanic activity and offers panoramic views. Your trek continues until reaching Shira 1 Camp where you will witness the dramatic skies and sunsets of Kilimanjaro.

Day 3: From Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

  • Elevation: 3,505m to 4,200m
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
  • Vegetation: Alpine Desert

Trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth, towards the strikingly beautiful Moir Hut. This route is less traveled and provides a sense of isolation and wilderness. Enjoy the alpine desert's unique flora and the geological features including lava towers and volcanic plugs.

Day 4: From Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp

  • Elevation: 4,200m to 4,020m
  • Distance: 12 km
  • Trekking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Vegetation: Alpine Desert

Today involves a moderate ascent to the base of the Lent Hills, where you can opt to climb for splendid views before descending into the remote northern circuit. The trek to Buffalo Camp is a fantastic journey through otherworldly landscapes, known for its solitude and untouched beauty.

Day 5: From Buffalo Camp to Rongai Third Cave

  • Elevation: 4,020m to 3,800m
  • Distance: 8 km
  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
  • Vegetation: Alpine Desert

Descend to Third Cave, with the majestic Kibo summit in clear view. This scenic route offers a different perspective of Kilimanjaro, with the northern side often clear of clouds in the morning. It's a day to prepare mentally for the summit push.

Day 6: From Rongai Third Cave to School Hut

  • Elevation: 3,800m to 4,800m
  • Distance: 15 km
  • Trekking Time: 4-5 hours
  • Vegetation: Alpine Desert

Ascend to School Hut where you will rest and enjoy an early dinner as preparation for your . The views of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks are spectacular, and the landscape is stark yet stunning.

Day 7: Summit Day – School Hut to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Elevation: 4,800m to 5,895m (summit) to 3,100m
  • Distance: 6 km ascent / 12 km descent
  • Trekking Time: 6-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
  • Vegetation: Arctic

Depart around midnight for the summit, the most challenging yet rewarding part of the trek. Ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim, recognized as the most mentally and physically challenging section of the route. From Stella Point, it is a less demanding hike to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Day 8: From Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi

  • Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Vegetation: Rainforest

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates. Our vehicle awaits to take you back to your Moshi hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Departure Day: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport
After breakfast, take some time to relax before we transport you to the airport for your flight home, carrying memories of a lifetime.
