Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a warm welcome awaits from a KCTE representative who will transport you to your selected hotel in . Unwind in comfort at your pre-booked accommodation, from a variety of options listed on our accommodation page. Rest up, for your adventure begins tomorrow!

Day 1: Moshi to Simba Camp

  • Elevation: 1,950m to 2,650m
  • Distance: 8km
  • Trekking Time: 4 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest

Your journey starts with a drive to the Rongai Gate where after completing the necessary park formalities, you'll begin your trek. The initial path winds through maize and potato fields before entering the pine forest. As you hike, the trail introduces you to the captivating flora and fauna of Kilimanjaro's rainforest zone. Tonight, under the stars at Simba Camp, enveloped by the gentle sounds of the forest.

Day 2: Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp

  • Elevation: 2,650m to 3,600m
  • Distance: 12km
  • Trekking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland

After breakfast, embark on a trek that takes you through the heath zone where the landscape transitions to shrubs and rocky outcrops. Witness the striking change in vegetation as you approach the second cave at 3450m, with the possibility of seeing Kilimanjaro's exotic birds and unusual plants. Continue ascending to Kikelewa Camp where the night skies are a canvas of stars.

Day 3: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

  • Elevation: 3,600m to 4,330m
  • Distance: 6km
  • Trekking Time: 4 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine desert

Your hike today is shorter, allowing for acclimatization as you approach the starker landscapes of the alpine desert. The trek towards Mawenzi Tarn is steep at times, set in a dramatic scene of volcanic rocks and sparse vegetation. The camp lies in the shadow of the rugged Mawenzi peak, providing a surreal backdrop and a serene environment for further acclimatization.

Day 4: Acclimatization at Mawenzi Tarn Camp

  • Activities: Acclimatization walks
  • Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut

  • Elevation: 4,330m to 4,700m
  • Distance: 9km
  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine desert

Resume your ascent traversing the lunar landscapes of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. This stark, barren area is hit by strong winds, resembling a true high-altitude desert. Reach Kibo Hut for an early dinner, followed by rest, as the excitement builds for your nighttime summit push.

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: 4,700m to 5,895m (and down to 3,720m)
  • Distance: 6km ascent / 16km descent
  • Trekking Time: 6-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
  • Habitat: Arctic

Depart around midnight for the summit, a challenging trek on steep, frozen scree to Gilman's Point on the crater rim, followed by a less demanding hike to Uhuru Peak. Conquer Africa's highest point at 5,895m and enjoy the sunrise from above the clouds. The descent takes you back to Kibo then down to Horombo Hut, where you can reflect on your achievements in the moorland's embrace.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi

  • Elevation: 3,720m to 1,800m
  • Distance: 20km
  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest

The final day on the mountain begins with a descent through the lush rainforest. Your successful expedition ends at the Marangu Gate where you'll receive your summit certificates. From here, our KCTE vehicle will take you back to your hotel in Moshi to rest and celebrate.

Savor a leisurely breakfast before we escort you to the airport. Leave Tanzania enriched with extraordinary memories and stories to tell.
