Start your expedition with a drive from Moshi to the Shira Gate, where the trek begins. Today's gentle hike through the montane forest will lead you to the edge of the Shira Plateau, where you will camp at Simba Camp. The moorland habitat offers the first glimpse of Kilimanjaro's unique flora and fauna. This stage is crucial for acclimatization and provides panoramic views of the mountain.

- Elevation: 3,500m to 3,850m
- Distance: 11 km
- Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
- Habitat: Moorland
As you leave Simba Camp, the trail merges into an expansive moorland where the iconic giant lobelias begin to appear. Trekking across the Shira Plateau, you'll encounter minimal elevation gain, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude. Shira 2 Camp offers breathtaking views of the Kibo Peak, providing a majestic backdrop for your overnight stay.
