Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania – Preparation and Anticipation

Day 1: Moshi to Mandara Hut

Your expedition begins with a morning briefing from our expert guides, followed by a brief drive to the Marangu Gate. After park formalities, step into the lush montane rainforest. Today's trek is a gentle introduction, with chirping birdlife and perhaps glimpses of monkeys. Arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight, your first taste of high-altitude slumber amidst towering trees and mist.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: From 2,700 meters to 3,720 meters
  • Distance: 12 kilometers
  • Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland

As dawn breaks, set out through the dwindling forest and enter the otherworldly moorland zone. Giant lobelias and eerie groundsels pepper the landscape. Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today, the physical challenge increases as you trek the stark yet spectacular alpine desert. Sparse vegetation and rugged lead you to the Kibo Hut, where rest and mealtime prepare you for the summit push. Sleep early: the climax of your trek starts at midnight.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: From 4,700 meters to 5,895 meters (Uhuru Peak) and down to 3,720 meters
  • Distance: 4 kilometers ascent + 14 kilometers descent
  • Hiking Time: 12-15 hours
  • Habitat: Arctic

An early night leads to a predawn start under starlit skies. Traversing the steep switchbacks of Gilman's Point to Stella Point, the emotional and physical toll intensifies. But with each step, you are closer to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. Revel in the sunrise and the accomplishment before descending to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Return to Civilization

  • Elevation: From 3,720 meters to 1,800 meters
  • Distance: 18 kilometers
  • Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland and Rainforest

The return journey has its own rewards, with the forests and moorlands revisited in the light of success. Reaching the Marangu Gate, collect your certificate of achievement and be transported back to your Moshi hotel. Reflect on the journey with a celebratory dinner among your fellow trekkers and KCTE team.

Day 6: Departure Day

Relaxed and inspired, a KCTE vehicle will transport you back to Kilimanjaro International Airport. With memories etched into your heart, this is not just a farewell but an invitation to return.
