Experience a memorable 6-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb via the classic Marangu Route. Trek from the lush rainforest through alpine landscapes and across the Saddle before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres.
6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb via Marangu Route
A classic Kilimanjaro trekking adventure with mountain hut accommodation and an additional acclimatization day designed to provide a more comfortable approach to the summit.
The 6-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb is an excellent choice for travelers looking for the traditional Marangu experience while allowing more time to adjust to increasing altitude.
Known as the "Coca-Cola Route", Marangu is the only major Kilimanjaro route that traditionally uses mountain huts for overnight accommodation. This makes it particularly attractive to trekkers who prefer sleeping indoors rather than camping in tents.
The trek starts at Marangu Gate and climbs through the lush rainforest to Mandara Hut. From there, the landscape changes into heather and moorland before reaching Horombo Hut.
The extra acclimatization day around Horombo provides an opportunity for a shorter high-altitude hike before the trek continues toward Kibo Hut and the summit.
The final summit attempt begins during the night, taking you toward Gilman's Point, Stella Point and finally Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres.

Marangu Gate → Mandara Hut
Rainforest ZoneAfter breakfast, drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate. Complete the necessary registration and park entry procedures before beginning your Kilimanjaro trek.
The trail leads through the lush rainforest, where you may encounter a variety of vegetation and birdlife. Continue at a comfortable pace toward Mandara Hut.
Arrive at Mandara Hut in the afternoon, settle into your mountain accommodation and enjoy dinner before resting for the next day's trek.
Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut
MoorlandAfter breakfast, leave Mandara Hut and continue ascending toward Horombo Hut. The rainforest gradually gives way to the open heather and moorland landscape.
On clear days, you may enjoy impressive views toward Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak as the trail climbs higher.
Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon. Enjoy dinner and rest while your body begins adjusting to the higher altitude.
Horombo Hut → Mawenzi Ridge → Horombo Hut
AcclimatizationToday is an important acclimatization day. After breakfast, leave Horombo Hut for a shorter high-altitude hike toward the Mawenzi Ridge area.
The hike provides spectacular views across the volcanic landscape and offers an opportunity to spend more time at altitude without immediately moving to a higher sleeping elevation.
Return to Horombo Hut in the afternoon for lunch, relaxation and preparation for the next stage of your Kilimanjaro climb.
Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut
Alpine DesertAfter breakfast, begin the trek toward Kibo Hut. The trail crosses the high-altitude Saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as you enter the alpine desert zone. This dramatic landscape provides a striking contrast to the rainforest encountered on your first day.
Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon. After an early dinner, prepare your summit clothing and equipment before going to sleep for a few hours. Your summit attempt will begin around midnight.
Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut
Summit DayWake around midnight and begin the most demanding part of your Kilimanjaro adventure. The trail climbs slowly over steep volcanic scree toward the crater rim.
Your guide will set a slow and steady pace as you ascend toward Gilman's Point. Continue along the crater rim toward Stella Point before proceeding toward the summit.
Continue across the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, standing at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet). Celebrate your achievement and take photographs before beginning the descent.
Descend back toward Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for your final night on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Moshi
Final DescentEnjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before beginning your descent through the beautiful Kilimanjaro rainforest toward Marangu Gate.
At the gate, complete the final park exit procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate if you successfully reached the applicable summit point.
Your KCTE vehicle will meet you at Marangu Gate and transfer you back to Moshi. Enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable hotel room and a well-deserved celebration after your Kilimanjaro achievement.
