Day 1

Machame Gate → Machame Camp

Rainforest Zone

After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, where registration and entry procedures are completed. The trek begins through the lush Kilimanjaro rainforest, where you may encounter colorful birds and signs of local wildlife.

Continue along the forest trail toward Machame Camp, enjoying the cool atmosphere and dense vegetation. Your mountain crew will prepare camp while you relax and enjoy dinner.

Machame Camp → Shira Camp

Moorland

After several hours of trekking, arrive at Shira Camp on the Shira Plateau. This high-altitude environment provides an excellent opportunity for your body to begin adapting to the increasing elevation.

Acclimatization

Today's trek is one of the most important acclimatization days. You climb toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 metres before descending toward Barranco Camp.

The "climb high, sleep low" principle helps your body adjust to the altitude. Along the way, you will cross the dramatic alpine desert and enjoy spectacular views of Kilimanjaro's volcanic landscape.

Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Southern Circuit

Wake up to magnificent views of the Barranco Wall. After breakfast, begin the exciting climb up the wall, using hands and feet where necessary. The route is challenging but highly rewarding.

Once above the Barranco Wall, continue through the spectacular alpine landscape toward Karanga Camp. The shorter trekking day gives you valuable time to rest and prepare for the summit push.

Summit Day

This is the most demanding and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro climb. After an early meal, begin trekking toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit.

After resting and preparing your equipment, the summit ascent begins around midnight. Trek slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres.

Celebrate your summit achievement before beginning the long descent toward Mweka Camp. The descent provides a welcome change in scenery as you return toward the forest zone.

Descent

Your KCTE vehicle will meet you at the gate and transfer you back to Moshi for a well-deserved shower, rest and celebration of your successful Kilimanjaro adventure.
