Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a warm greeting awaits from a KCTE representative who will escort you to your selected hotel in Moshi. Day 1: Moshi to Machame Camp

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

As the canopy thins, the trail leads into the heath and moorland zone, offering expansive views of the mountain. Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

This is a crucial day for acclimatization. The route ascends to the base of Lava Tower, a 300-foot volcanic plug, where we stop to have lunch and allow our bodies to adjust to the higher altitude. We then descend to Barranco Camp through an enchanting valley filled with giant senecios and lobelia. The day ends with the impressive Barranco Wall as a backdrop, providing one of the most picturesque campsites.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: 3,976m to 3,995m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Trekking Time: 4-5 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine desert

Today involves conquering the Barranco Wall; it's challenging but immensely rewarding with panoramic views of the mountain's southern face. The trail then undulates until reaching Karanga Camp. This shorter day aids further acclimatization while offering ample time to rest and enjoy the stark beauty of the alpine desert.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: 3,995m to 4,673m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours

As we edge closer to the summit, the scenery shifts to a sparse, rocky landscape. Barafu Camp is situated on a barren ridge, providing a strategic stop for a shorter trekking day to prepare for the summit attempt. Rest early, as we embark on a midnight hike to the peak.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Summit) to 3,068m
  • Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
  • Trekking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
  • Habitat: Arctic

The journey to Uhuru Peak is a demanding yet rewarding endeavor. It begins in the wee hours of the morning to catch the sunrise at Stella Point. The final stretch is along a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. After celebrating the accomplishment, the descent follows the same route back to Barafu for a brief rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

  • Elevation: 3,068m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours

The final day on the mountain leads through the lush rainforest once again, a gentle trek compared to the preceding days. Day 8: Departure Day
