Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

Welcome to ! Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly KCTE team will greet you warmly and transfer you to your chosen hotel in Moshi. Accommodation options range from luxurious lodges to comfortable budget stays, ensuring a restful night before your adventure begins. Take this day to relax, and perhaps enjoy a stroll through the vibrant town of Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Glades – Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Elevation: From 2,400m to 2,650m
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Trekking : 3-4 hours
  • Environment: Rainforest

Begin your journey with a drive from Moshi to the Lemosho Gate, where you'll complete registration formalities. From there, trek through lush rainforests where towering trees and verdant undergrowth are home to diverse wildlife, including the playful black and white colobus monkeys. This gentle start offers a perfect introduction to Kilimanjaro's varied landscapes. Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: From 2,650m to 3,610m
  • Distance: 8 km
  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours

As you ascend, bid farewell to the rainforest and enter the . This region features fewer trees and more shrubs, adorned with unique flora such as giant lobelias and senecios. The views here start to open up, offering vistas of the Shira Plateau ahead. This day tests your acclimatization with a significant gain in altitude.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

  • Elevation: From 3,610m to 3,900m (via 4,630m at Lava Tower)
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Trekking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Environment: Semi-desert

Today's trek, a pivotal point for acclimatization, takes you across the Shira Plateau to the Lava Tower, an imposing volcanic plug standing at 4,630m. The climb to Lava Tower is slow to accommodate acclimatization needs before descending to the beautiful Barranco Camp. The camp is famous for its spectacular sunsets and the iconic Barranco Wall, a towering cliff face looming above the campsite.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: From 3,900m to 3,995m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Trekking Time: 4-5 hours
  • Environment: Alpine desert

Tackle the Barranco Wall in the morning, an exhilarating scramble that leads to breathtaking views over the southern ice fields. The trail then winds up and down several ridges to Karanga Camp, with the majestic peaks of Kilimanjaro towering above. This shorter day allows for rest and further acclimatization.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: From 3,995m to 4,673m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Environment: Alpine desert

Ascend to Barafu Camp, where the scenery shifts to stark, rocky landscapes. Preparing for the , you'll rest and enjoy an early dinner to ensure adequate sleep before the midnight trek to the . This stage requires mental and physical preparation as the excitement and challenge peak.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

  • Elevation: From 4,673m to 5,895m (and down to 3,068m)
  • Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
  • Trekking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
  • Environment: Arctic

Depart around midnight for the summit, trekking through the night to reach Stella Point by sunrise. The view of the sun rising over Mawenzi Peak is truly magical, offering a new perspective on the world. Push on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After your , begin the descent to Mweka Camp, navigating scree and rocky paths.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

  • Elevation: From 3,068m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Environment: Rainforest

The final descent takes you through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificates, say farewell to your mountain crew, and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
